If you could live anywhere, which city would you call home?
Although I recently moved to Ridgewood, I prefer to reside in warm climates (specifically near a beach). I grew up on Cape Cod and have enjoyed spending summers there, especially given several fond memories I have of the area. I wouldn’t mind living in Myrtle Beach, SC or Marina Del Ray, CA during the winter—both locations meet my criteria, and my wife Jacqueline and I have enjoyed spending an extensive amount of time in each of these towns.
If you could eat just one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
This one is a no-brainer: barbeque ribs with a side of potatoes (mashed or fried) and coleslaw. This meal conjures up celebratory memories for me since my mom always prepared it for all of my birthdays. To my surprise (“cough cough”), this same dish magically appeared on the menu for my engagement dinner with Jacqueline!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In addition to spending time with friends and family, I like to keep active by playing softball and golf and skiing (although I dislike the cold). I also enjoy watching sports. Although I now live in New Jersey, I still root for the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots!
Who is your biggest hero?
I admittedly struggled to choose just one person while answering this question so instead chose both of my parents. They owned a restaurant on Cape Cod for over 25 years, and I watched them work an insane number of hours and sacrifice time with family and friends to give my sister and me a better life. Not only am I so appreciative of what they’ve done, but they also instilled in me a strong work ethic by employing me at the restaurant (primarily as a baker, a skill I’m confident appealed to the interviewers here at Vision Retirement!).
What would you do with your Mega Millions winnings?
For starters, I’d take care of my family: ensuring they’re debt-free and also starting a college fund for my newborn niece! I’d then plan a vacation to Italy since we’ve never been there as a family (parents, siblings, in-laws, etc.). Finally, I’d donate plenty of money to the Jimmy Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and an organization my dad was once involved in—which, in turn, has inspired me to help those battling such a horrible disease.
What are some of your most memorable moments?
I don't want to get into any trouble here, so let's say the first and second are (by far) my wedding and our move to Ridgewood in 2023 to be closer to Jacqueline’s family. A very (and I mean very) distant third is my experiences as a baseball pitcher. During a divisional playoff game when I was a senior in high school, I pulled a “Nolan Ryan” (Nolan was an MLB hall-of-fame pitcher known for many skills, including his endurance) and pitched ten consecutive innings in one game. I only allowed three runs, though we did end up losing. I was then a relief pitcher for Bentley University and had the opportunity to start one game for the team, during which I pitched seven strong innings and we won. During three years spent pitching in college, my first was the most successful as I had an excellent earned run average (ERA) under 3.00 that year. When my ERA ballooned in subsequent years, my hunch is that a calculation glitch in the university's computer system was the culprit!
